about the british longhair cat and where they came from
The British Longhair came about because of the Second world war. At the end of the Second world war, the British Shorthair Cat (The cheshire Cat with the big smile from Alice in wonderland) was in desperate straights. Cats abroad had almost disapeared and there were very few in England. Breeders rallied and because the breeding numbers were too small to be sustainable as they brought the British short hair back they had to outcross to get a larger breeding base.
